MOBIle baybears game
The students of Algebra II will be taking a field trip to a Mobile BayBears game during the year. The date of the game will be announced and emailed out to all parents and students. The purpose of this field trip is to help students understand that probability and statistics are relevant in everyday life, especially in sporting events. While there, the students will be able to write down and discuss how probability and statistics are being used in various parts of the baseball game. Students will need to think about various things during the game and complete questions for an assignment such as the following:
1) What is the probability that the BayBears will win the game (according to past games)? Using this probability, predict who will win the game. Was your prediction correct? If not, explain why predictions may sometimes be wrong.
2) Research the batting averages of the players. Record the players' at bats during the game to determine whether or not the player did better or worse than the batting average predicted.
3) Come up with one creative aspect of the game that you can observe and determine the probability for. (Such as the percentage of people that wore baseball caps.)
4) Discuss the importance of probability and statistics in baseball.
An official list of questions will be given along with the date and time of the baseball game.
